The Canadian actor Ryan Thomas Gosling was born on November 12, 1980. In addition to independent films, he has worked on blockbuster films of different genres and has earned over 1.9 billion dollars at the worldwide box office. Among his many accolades, he has received a Golden Globe Award and has been nominated for two Academy Awards and a BAFTA Award.
As a child star on the Disney Channel’s The Mickey Mouse Club (1993–1995), he rose to prominence at the age of 13 and went on to appear in other family entertainment programs, such as Are You Afraid of the Dark? (1995) and Goosebumps (1996). In 2001, he played a Jewish neo-Nazi in The Believer. He later starred in Murder by Numbers (2002), The Slaughter Rule (2002), and The United States of Leland (2003).
In 2004, Gosling became a star after starring in the romance movie The Notebook. A string of critically acclaimed independent dramas followed, including Half Nelson (2006), for which he was nominated for an Academy Award, Lars and the Real Girl (2007), and Blue Valentine (2010). It was a successful year for Gosling with three mainstream films, including the romantic comedy Crazy, Stupid, Love, the political drama The Ides of March, and the action drama Drive. As a result of his performance in the acclaimed financial satire The Big Short (2015) and the romantic musical La La Land (2016), he was nominated for a second Academy Award in the category of Best Actor. The science fiction thriller Blade Runner 2049 (2017) and the biopic First Man (2018) followed. Lost River marked his directorial debut in 2014, along with acting.
