Irish actor and producer Pierce Brendan Brosnan OBE was born in Dublin, Ireland. From 1995 to 2002, he starred in four Bond films and in multiple video games as the fifth actor to portray James Bond.
Born 16 May 1953 in Drogheda, County Louth, Brosnan is the only child of May (nee Smith) and carpenter Thomas Brosnan. Pierce Brosnan, his grandfather, in turn, was named after his parents: John Brosnan and Margaret Pierce. [better source needed] He lived in Navan, County Meath, for 12 years, and has said that it is his hometown. A young Brosnan was abandoned by his father when he was an infant. He moved to London with his mother when he was four years old to work as a nurse. His maternal grandparents, Philip and Kathleen Smith, raised him largely from that point on. In the years following their deaths, he lived with aunts and uncles, and then moved into a boarding house run by a woman named Eileen. He later said, “I never knew my father. He left when I was an infant.” Being Irish Catholic in the 1950s and having a marriage that wasn’t there and a father that wasn’t there […] the mother, the wife suffered greatly. I was very proud of my mother. She was very brave. She decided to go away and become a nurse in England. I was lucky to see her once a year, twice a year.
