Netherlands vs USA live streaming: A match between the Netherlands and the USA at the Khalifa International Stadium will kick off the last-16 phase of the World Cup 2022.

In Group B, the Stars and Stripes finished second to England in Group A, while Louis van Gaal’s team topped Group A.

After taking seven points from three matches, the Netherlands did not let the Oranje faithful down, notching seven points from three matches despite their blip against Ecuador.

As a result of his well-taken opener against Qatar on Tuesday, Cody Gakpo has become the fourth Dutchman to score in three consecutive World Cup games. A tap-in from Frenkie de Jong also confirmed a first-place finish and ensured the hosts’ exit from the European Championships with no points to their name. The hosts leave the competition winless and without a point.

While there has been concern over the Netherlands’ style of play at this World Cup so far, with The Netherlands having only eight shots on target to their name, Van Gaal has dismissed such concerns as Oranje prepares for the final round of the World Cup knockouts.

During the past 32 years, the Netherlands have consistently qualified for the last 16 of every World Cup they have participated in, and have only been knocked out at this stage twice throughout this period – once in 1990, and then once in 2006. So the Netherlands have a remarkable record of being in the last 16 for every World Cup they have participated in since 1934.

Dutch teams have been unbeaten in all competitions for 18 games since their Euro 2020 elimination against the Czech Republic, and Van Gaal is on the hunt for an 11th World Cup win without a loss – levelling with Mario Zagallo for second place and one behind Felipe Scolari for the all-time record of 12.

In their final Group B match against Iran, USA talisman Christian Pulisic scored the only goal of the game to send his side to the knockout stages of football’s most prestigious event by putting his body on the line and receiving an injury that required hospitalization.

In the 38th minute, Pulisic ended that winner-takes-all showdown by curling a close-range finish into the top left corner, moving Gregg Berhalter’s side above Iran into second place behind England and setting up a tantalizing match with the Dutch.

As recently as 2002, the U.S. also got as far as the quarter-finals of the World Cup before being eliminated, and they have made it beyond the last 16 of the World Cup two more times before being eliminated. However, recent history against European nations in the World Cup does not favor Berhalter’s squad.

Netherlands vs USA Team Update

A UEFA team has not beaten the USA since 2002 at the World Cup – it has drawn six times and lost five times, and lost its three previous knockout games against European opponents.

Having lost their first four friendly matches with the Netherlands, the Stars and Stripes achieved their first win over Iran in six matches across all tournaments. In 2015, however, they defeated Oranje 4-3 – recovering from being down 3-1 to win in the 90th minute because of Bobby Wood’s heroics.

After suffering an injury scare with his ankle on Wednesday, Jeremie Frimpong was back in full training on Thursday after his ankle returned to the normal range of motion, but Denzel Dumfries was always going to be expected to line up on the right of the defence regardless.

There should therefore be all of Van Gaal’s players available, but if Matthijs de Ligt and Nathan Ake receive yellow cards, they will miss any potential quarter-final match, so Van Gaal will not be able to field his strongest side.

As Gakpo aims to become the first Dutchman to score in four consecutive World Cup matches, it is highly likely that Oranje will keep a similar lineup, as the in-demand starlet of PSV Eindhoven is in high demand.

In a congratulatory social media message posted from his hospital bed, Chelsea attacker Pulisic confirmed that he would be fine for Saturday’s game against Iran despite suffering a pelvic contusion.

As well as losing Josh Sargent to an ankle injury, Berhalter also reportedly lost Weston McKennie to what appears to be an injury to the quad of his right leg. Despite the fact that the extent of the damage will not be determined until the results of the scans come back, the USA are likely to face another selection headache.

It is expected that all three players will be fit for the last-16 clash, and Berhalter will likely stick with the same XI unless any last-minute concerns arise.

Possible lineups for the Netherlands:

Dumfries, De Roon, Noppert; Timber, Van Dijk, Ake; F. De Jong, Blind; Klaassen; Gakpo, Depay.

Possible USA lineup:

Robinson; McKennie, Turner; Dest, Carter-Vickers, Ream, Adams, Musah; Weah, Sargent, Pulisic.
