History of Eid al-Adha

Eid al-Adha, better known as ‘Bakrid’, is a Qurbani festival and is very important in Islam. Considered one of the most beautiful festivals, people celebrated Eid al-Adha two months after Eid-al-Fitr or Ramadan Eid in honor of Ibrahim Abraham who was ready to sacrifice his beloved son Ismael.

According to legend, Ibrahim was willing to sacrifice his beloved son Ismael to prove his devotion to Allah. When Ibrahim was ready to offer Ismael, Allah sent Angel Gabriel, also known as Jibreel, and a sheep to be slaughtered in place of Ibrahim’s son so we celebrate Eid al-Adha.

According to Shahi Imam of Jama Masjid in Delhi, Syed Ahmed Bukhari, Eid-al-Adha will be celebrated on August 1 in India, a day after the celebrations in Saudi Arabia on July 31. Meanwhile, Kerala will also be celebrating the festival with Saudi Arabia on July 31.

Muslims around the world offer Eid al-Adha mosque prayers just after sunrise and just before entering Zuhr (noon prayer time). The prayer is followed by a sermon or khutbah, by the Imam

How Eid al-Adha Celebrated

The Muslim community celebrates the festival by offering special prayers. The community exchanges gifts and greetings. In India, Eid al-Adha is considered a gazelle holiday. Other names for the festival include Id-ul-Adha, the festival of consecration, Id-ul-Zuha and Bakr-Id. The festival is celebrated with new clothes and special prayers. Goats can be offered to God. The meat was shared with family friends and relatives.

Significance Of Bakra eid

Bakra Eid is not just an animal sacrifice but a reminder of Ismael and Ibrahim’s complete devotion to Allah. The meat of a slaughtered animal is divided into three equal parts. One part is given to the poor and needy, one part is given to relatives and the last part is supported by the family itself.

Why is Bakra Eid celebrated ?

It marks the end of the Hajj period and reminds us of the Prophet Ibraheem’s determination to sacrifice his son for the sake of GOD, to which he was eventually freed, and GOD was pleased with both father and son.

‘Eid al-Adhā is a sacrificial feast celebrated by pilgrims in Hajj and Muslims around the world. The event falls towards the end of Hajj in the last month of the year (Dhul-Hijjah). It is an act of worship and obedience to GOD – and it reminds Muslims that the Prophet Ibāheem (peace be upon him) was willing to sacrifice his son for God. On the actual day (10 Dhul-Hijjah), the ‘Eid prayer is performed outside, the weather permits, or else in large armies to gather more Muslims in one place. This is happening in hundreds if not thousands of cities, towns and villages around the world. The Imam introduced the khutbah (sermon) after the prayer as he did in ‘Eid al-Fitr.

If you do not eat vegetables you can prepare a meal with processed chicken that is high in protein. But don’t get too deep on the kebabs. Also, you can use olive oil instead of pure oil.
