भारत के ग्रामीण क्षेत्र में माहवारी के समय महिलाओं को होने वाली समस्या और पैड की अनुपलब्धता को लेकर बनी एक शॉर्ट फिल्म ‘ पीरियड : द एंड ऑफ सेंटेंस’ को ‘डॉक्यूमेंट्री शॉर्ट सब्जेक्ट’ श्रेणी में ऑस्कर पुरस्कार मिला है। इस डॉक्यूमेंट्री का निर्देशन रायका जेहताबची ने किया है साथ ही इसे प्रोड्यूसर गुनीत मोंगा की ’सिखिया एंटरटेनमेंट’ ने प्रोड्यूस किया है।

बता दें कि लगभग दो साल पहले यूपी के इस छोटे से गांव की महिलाओं ने यह ठान लिया था कि वे ग्रामीण महिलाओं को माहवारी के दौरान सैनिटरी पैड इस्तेमाल करने के लिए जागरूक करेंगी। जिसके लिए जिला मुख्यालय से लगभग सात किमी दूर गांव काठीखेड़ा से जुड़ी कुछ महिलाओं ने अपने गांव से ही इस सफर को शुरू की। इसके लिए उन्होंने गांव में ही सेनेटरी नेपकिन बनाना शुरू कर दिया। धीरे -धीरे इनके हौसले की कहानी दुनियाभर में मशहूर होने लगी। और उसके बाद काठी खेड़ा की इन महिलाओं के हौसले को बताती डॉक्यूमेंटरी पीरियड. एंड ऑफ सेंटेंस ने ऑस्कर अवार्ड के शॉर्ट सब्जेक्ट डॉक्यूमेंटरी वर्ग में अवार्ड जीता है। इससे जुड़ी हापुड़ की दो बेटियां भी यह पुरस्कार लेने ऑस्कर समारोह में भाग लेने के लिए अमेरिका पहुंची हैं।
